The (Imagined) New York City Getaway

Nearly one year ago, I met newlyweds Robert and Christina at a gathering at Lux Central, a contemporary coffee shop in Midtown Phoenix. The couple impressed with their poised nature and classic fashion; they were New York City natives and it showed. Robert stood firm in a black blazer, blue button down, trousers and brown wingtip oxfords; his slightly tapered hair glinted in the Arizona sunshine. Christina’s soft curls (coiffure à la Zooey Deschanel) were a darling complement to her signature felt hat. Together, the two inspired the ultimate wanderlust for Midtown New York City. In fact, you could say that at that very moment, we all re-imagined the Phoenix Light Rail as the MTA subway line M at 42 St Bryant Park.

Fast forward to July 12, the day that a restaurant recommendation by Cheyanne would call to mind the imagined New York City getaway of 2014. We invited Robert and Christina, whom we had both met at Lux Central, to indulge in exemplary farm-to-table cuisine at St. Francis. Characterized by Brooklyn-style brickwork and abstract artwork, the ambiance at St. Francis frames a metropolitan setting fit for work, weekends and wherever in between. Chef Aaron Chamberlin specially delivered sweet hospitality in a vegetable wood-fried flatbread garnished by heirloom tomatoes, corn, cheese and basil chiffonade ($12, vg).
